Microsoft on Thursday reported a whopping 48 percent spike in fourth-quarter profit from a year ago, as earnings increased from $3.05 billion to a record $4.52 billion. The smashing numbers were driven by continuing sales of Windows 7 and, somewhat less significantly, Office 2010.

Microsoft_earning_chartEarnings per share jumped from 34 cents in Q4 FY09 to 51 cents in the quarter ended June 30.
